Publishing of Scientific Materials within Publications Issued by the Department

Conditions for obtaining service

Instructions that must be met in all scientific materials submitted for publication in the annual bulletin of the Department of Antiquities or within the series of studies on the history and antiquities of Jordan are: 1. Material submitted for publishing must be in Arabic or English. 2. Text not to exceed 7000 words (about 15 pages) for the series of studies on the history and antiquities of Jordan, and 15000 words (about 30 pages) for the annual bulletin of the Department of Antiquities. This number does not include the bibliography, references, notes, appendices, plate and explanatory picture headings. Materials ready for publishing to be headed by the name of the author/title according to the writer(s) wishes. 3. Arrangement of the materials ready for publication, according to the following: · Title of the essay, name of the writer and his/her address. · Text of the scientific material. · List of bibliography and references. · Notes. · Titles of explanatory pictures and plates.

Procedures

1. Material ready for publication to be sent in two copies: loaded on a magnetic disc (Macintosh or IBM) and printed on paper.

2. Appendices and attachments to be sent with the script of the material prepared for publication, all to be referred to in the text, and to be arranged in accordance with the text.

3. Underline all foreign and slanted printed words in order to make them distinctive. Arabic words and names of places as they come within foreign essays are to be written in accordance with the method adopted by the annual publication of the Department of Antiquities.

4. Keep notes short and to the point with the narrowest of limits. Referencing within the text should be as follows: (author, year of publication: pages).

5. List of bibliography and references to be arranged alphabetically, as follows:

· Essay:

Name of writer, year of publication, title of essay, name of magazine and issue – underlined – pages.

· Essay published within a book:

Name of writer, year of publication, title of essay, pages, book editor, title of book – underlined, publisher.

· Books:

Name of author, year of publication, title of book – underlined, publisher.

Material ready for publishing in the annual bulletin of the Department of Antiquities must be sent to the Department’s Publication Section before the 31st March of every year.
